Install Manalyx as an app — without an app store

Manalyx is a Progressive Web App (PWA): you install it directly from your browser by adding it to the home screen. There is no App Store or Play Store download, no review queue, and no separate update flow — the app simply runs from manalyx.com and updates itself in the background. Below you will find what to expect on iOS, Android and desktop, plus answers to the most common installation questions.

Why install Manalyx as an app

Once installed, Manalyx behaves like any native app: its own icon on the home screen, full-screen mode without the browser address bar, fast cold-start through cached assets, and optional push notifications for price alerts and the weekly summary.

Because it is a PWA, the same code base runs on iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Android tablets and desktop — there is only one product to maintain, and you always get the latest version automatically.

iOS vs Android vs desktop

On iPhone and iPad, install through Safari via Share → "Add to Home Screen". On Android, Chrome shows an "Install app" prompt in the menu, or directly in the address bar. On desktop, Chrome and Edge show an install icon at the right end of the URL bar.

After installation, Manalyx opens in its own window — no browser tabs, no URL bar — and is available from the home screen, app drawer or Start menu like any other application.

Updates, offline access and notifications

Updates are delivered automatically the next time you open the app: there is no manual download and no version mismatch between users. Cached assets keep the shell usable when the network is briefly unavailable, but live data (prices, balances) requires a connection.

On Android and desktop, the PWA can deliver Web Push notifications for price alerts and the weekly portfolio summary if you opt in. iOS supports Web Push only after the app has been added to the home screen.

Installable on every platform

How the Manalyx PWA installs, updates and behaves once it lives on your home screen

Manalyx is a Progressive Web App, which means installation does not go through an App Store review and updates do not require a manual download. Once installed, it gets its own icon, its own window, and its own service worker that caches the shell so the dashboard opens instantly even when network is slow. The same web origin you sign in to in the browser is the one running inside the installed app — no second account, no second password, no separate sync.

Why a PWA suits a finance dashboard

App-Store-distributed apps add a 1-2 week review delay to every security fix. A PWA ships fixes as soon as they pass internal review, which matters when the change is a CSP tightening or a session-handling improvement. The installed PWA is also subject to the same security headers (CSP, HSTS) as the web version, so the security model is genuinely identical.

Push notifications and what they actually carry

Notifications cover price-alert triggers and system events that need attention (failed sync, expired exchange key). They never contain holdings, balances or sensitive amounts in the body — the body is intentionally minimal so a notification on a lock screen does not leak portfolio details to anyone glancing over.

Offline behaviour without overpromising

The shell, last-rendered dashboard and recent navigation are cached so the app opens offline. Anything that requires fresh data (today's net worth, latest prices) needs connectivity. The offline indicator is explicit so you never see a stale number without knowing it is stale.
